LENINE SANTOS
Lenine Santos was born in Brasília – DF, Brazil and is considered one of the best interpreters of Brazilian music. He finished his Master’s Degree at the São Paulo State University (UNESP) in 2004 and is currently doing his PhD in Music at the same institution, focusing his dissertation on Brazilian Chamber Music. He began his musical career at a very young age with the String Orchestra of SESI, studying violin. Later on, he entered the Brasília School of Music where he studied vocal techniques and, from 1991 to 1995 he took classes with the well known singer, Niza de Castro Tank, at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in the State of São Paulo.
The 1993 season of the Municipal Theatre of São Paulo saw his début in the opera Il Pagliacci, by Leoncavallo, where he performed alongside well-known names in the world of lyric music, such as Silvia Ranali and Nicola Martinucci. He received prizes and honorable mentions in several competitions such as that of Carlos Gomes (1993), Canto de Barra Bonita (1994), and Maria Callas (1995 and 2004).
In 1998, Lenine Santos and Nancy Bueno recorded “XX Compositores Brasileiros”, a CD dedicated exclusively to Brazilian Contemporary and Classical Music. In 2005, he recorded “Caipira” with singer Suzana Salles and guitar player Ivan Vilela, in which they interpret Brazilian regional songs. Continuing his extensive work on Brazilian music, Lenine participated in the recording and reedition of Antônio Carlos Gomes’ songs in 2007, resulting in a new CD entitled “Minhas Pobres Canções”, and at the same year he recorded the CD “Canção”, with Achille Picchi.
